The Eastern & Coastal Region of NSW Great Dane Club runs a busy and dedicated rescue service which exists purely to rescue and re home Great Danes. Our rescue coordinator or other club members are usually contacted by Great Dane owners, shelters, the RSPCA and other organisation's when a Dane is in need of re homing. Some Danes are found roaming neighbourhoods, some are surrendered by their owners for a large range of reasons and some are cruelty cases needing some very specialised TLC.
All are Great Danes simply in need of love, care, good nutrition and patience.
We do not have any formal kennel arrangements and rely on the goodwill and dedication of club members and foster carers. In most cases, a Dane will be re homed straight from its existing situation into a permanent home. However, when the 'dumping season' is on (just before Christmas and Easter) some situations become urgent and foster homes are required. Most fosters are very short-term while the dog is assessed and any medical attention given. Foster carers will not be out of pocket and expenses are covered by the new owners and the club through fund-raising. Absolutely no profit is made by the club and we do not allow Dane owners to sell their dogs through Rescue.

Are you wanting to adopt a Dane? Many people don’t want small puppies and prefer an older, (usually) more settled dog in need of cuddles and a soft bed, preferably your favourite lounge near the fire! Our rescue coordinator will ask you several questions which will enable her to place the right dog in the right home.
For example, if a Dane has an unknown background, it will never be placed in a home with very small children (even though Danes are generally wonderful with children). We also need to know what other animals share your home and what dogs you have owned in the past. It is an important pre-requisite to adopting a re homed Great Dane that you have owned large breeds previously. Support and advice are on-going and happily given to anyone needing help with their new ‘family member’. We are a very friendly club and always happy to help with behavioural, health and nutritional issues.
Does your Dane need a home? We will not judge you or criticize your reasons for re homing your Great Dane, although we will happily help with advice on how to keep your Dane if that is an option. A full and honest history is a must to make the transition as smooth as possible for your Dane.
