Albert's re-Homing Success Story

Despite Albert's physical condition (a dry, sparse coat and no muscle tone) he was a friendly little chap.   The owners were contacted but did not want Albert or his mother back. Albert's mother (obviously well bred) had done her part by providing the owner with a litter, then Albert (being the runt of the litter) and his mother were dumped.

By the time members of The Eastern & Coastal Region of NSW had heard of Albert's plight, Albert’s mother had found a good home in the ACT. By this time, Albert had been in the shelter for nearly 3 weeks.  The wonderful staff at the Moss Vale Shelter wanted to make sure Albert was going to an experienced home as Dane relevant nutrition was paramount to ensure some sort of recovery.

Thanks to two members of the E&CR of NSW Great Dane Club (Trudy Heathwood and Leonie Martin) who picked him up and transported him on the long trip up to his foster home where he stayed for another 6 weeks.

Albert - 1st day out of the Moss Vale Shelter

Albert, now renamed Floyd (yes, there is pink in his collar!) was permanently adopted by Grant and Liu where he now lives a life of total luxury.  In winter he has a big soft cushion near the fire and in summer the same in air-conditioning! On most days, he is taken to the Grose River where he indulges in his (new) favourite past time of swimming and running around like an idiot!

When Grant and Liu are both on night shift, Floyd sleeps over at Marie’s (Rescue Coordinator of the E&CR of NSW Great Dane Club). Marie was Floyd's foster carer for 6 weeks until a more permanent home could be found. Marie's 7 year old merle bitch Melody, adores Floyd and has a new lease on life when he’s around. Together they zoom around like silly Grosby pups!

E&CR of NSW Great Dane Club Follow Up Story!

Floyd is now sixteen months old and is just starting to try and do male dog things like lifting his leg to pee, but his balance is terrible. He has a friend (a cattle dog named Barnie) and they love to go running with their owners on the fire trails in the Blue Mountains where they live.

Floyd is an accomplished swimmer and is quite at home in the rivers around where he lives. If Floyd's owners visit friends with a pool he will take in a few laps for fun. He is like all Danes - very gentle in nature, although he will give any door to door people quite a "warm" welcome with his big bark. A nicer natured dog could not be found and as you can see from the photo he  loves his little mate.
